A Pathologic Observation on Naturally Occurring Pneumonia in the Rats

Abstract
A total of 316 Sprague-dawley rats was examined to observe the incidence of marine pneumonia and the characteristics of the pneumonic lesion.
The results were summarized as follows ;
1. The incidence of the spontaneous pneumonia in the rats was 54.4% and the observed pneumonia of the rats were classified as purulent bronchopneumonia, interstitial pneumonia, and granulomatous pneumonia showing No. of cases as 18, 153, and 1 respectively.
2. Bronchopneumonia was characterized by purulent exudate in bronchi and bronchioles, marked peribronchial or perivascular lymphoid hygerplasia, hyperplasia of bronchial epithelium, bronchiectasis and emphysema.
Interstitial pneumonia was figured as thickening of laveoler septa by mononuclear cells, lymphocytes, and proliferation of fibrocytes and as focal proliferation of histiocytes in alveoli.
Granulomatous pneumonia showed necrotic zone and neutrophil zone surrounded by macrophage zone.
